THE exciting and challenging fifth Valley2Valley Navigational Motorbike Enduro took place on April 28 and 29 hosted at Imbabala Game Lodge and the route in the Muden and Weenen valleys.

Deon Bruss and Jason Gunter, with the help of Shane Hechter, Derrick Clegg, Shane Holmes, Haydn Chiazzari and Nick Floros, rode the valleys regularly for the past few months looking for tracks and planning new routes for the event.

The event was a two-day navigational enduro; the riders have to ride and navigate the course by GPS predetermined tracks.

Day one consisted of a two loop format starting at Imbabala to the Muden Valley and the two loop went towards Weenen.

Of the 89 riders who finished Loop A. only 55 started loop B. The first rider came in at a very impressive three hours, 50 minutes and the last rider came in after seven hours. Day two was 65 km into the Weenen Valley to the Bushman’s River and back to Imbabala. The first rider was in after two-and-a-half hours and last one in six hours.

Some of the locations on the route were named after the local riders; Badgers Joke, 2 step; Holmes waterfall; Shane’s Bath (Hechter); and Deon’s Revenge, Roger’s Diner, Mark’s Rocks amongst others. There was good community and spectator viewing along the route which created amusement on day one and day two.

The challenging sections provided some entertainment with some good humoured colourful language provided by the riders.

Ninety-four riders took part in the event, coming from KZN, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Free State, Cape and one visitor from the UK who unfortunately crashed out early on in the ride.

We would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the Valley2Valley Navigational Enduro this year!
From the participants, organisers, sponsors, Umvoti Municipal authorities and local area Indunas and spectators and especially to Chief Mchunu who has endorsed this event — everyone played a part in making this year’s event what it was!

We would also like to thank all the sponsors of the event: Racefood, Halls Bike Wash, Talisman Group, Plennegy Printing, Accessories Unlimited, Umvoti Air-conditioning and Refrigeration, Umvoti Fuel and Oil for the refuel and watering tables.

A very big thank you to Stephanie and the catering team at Imbabala Game Lodge for catering and hosting a total of 220 people at the event for keeping the riders and spectators well fed.

The next event will be a one-day challenge called The Golden Valley Hard Enduro Challenge held in the Muden Valley.

Organised by the Valley2Valley team, this event will challenge the best riders to their limit, held on the July 14 based in the Muden/Ivala Valley.
