Flowers and fun as Garden Club turns 121

2017-10-25 06:00

TUESDAY, October 31 is set to be a festive occasion when Greytown Garden Club celebrates 121 years of gardening as guests, members and visitors are treated to a celebratory morning of floral displays, a floral demonstration and beautiful music culminating in a sumptuous tea.

It is fitting that this milestone gathering will take place in the historic NG Church in Greytown.

Proceedings begin at 9am with registration and light music in the church, and the meeting opens at 9.30am. Entry is R25 for Garden Club members and R50 for visitors.

Visitors wishing to attend can contact Wendy Selley on 076 535 7305 to facilitate catering.

Experienced and creative floral artist, Vee Rencken, will be demonstrating a variety of new techniques and the use of recycling or up-cycling of containers and material in floral work. Music and flowers have always complimented one another.

Following the floral demonstration, a musical variety programme, presented by Hermannsburg School music pupils and choir, led by Chelsea Simmonds, will entertain.

Members and guests are invited to enjoy a lavish tea that will tempt even the most resolute of kilojoule counters. With background music played by Chelsea meet up with old friends, browse the stalls exhibiting quality garden-related items and might be the lucky recipient of one of the magnificent prizes kindly donated by local businesses and sponsors.

On Wednesday, November 1, the church will be open from 10am to 2pm for the public to view the arrangements. Entry is R10 per person.
