THERE will be pink balloons floating down St Clement’s Lane to show the way to the Shavathon and Sprayathon to be held at Taylor’s on Saturday October 28 to raise awareness about cancer and raise funds for cancer concerns. There are very few people around these days who have not had personal contact with someone who has or has had cancer. In South Africa breast cancer is one of the most common among women (and can affect men too) and CANSA estimates that one in nine women in this country, as a group, have a chance of getting cancer. This is why the Pink October breast cancer awareness and fund-raiser is so important in emphasising that cancer, if diagnosed early and with treatment, is not a death sentence. This factor makes it vital for all ages, men and women, to be aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, early detection and symptoms. The Shavathon/Sprayathon cuppa-for-CANSA is a lighthearted fun event. For a donation of R50 have your hair sprayed or, even better, your hair shaved off. Match your hair colour with nail art, and have a henna tattoo as well and then to show it – a photo too.One of the most popular features of this annual event, which is now in its fifth year, is the superb and tasty array of cupcakes - baked, decorated and donated as part of the CANSA fund-raising. Buy a cupcake to have with our cuppa-for-CANSA and a few more to take home. The Shavathon is being sponsored by Taylor’s and Superbody Club. Make sure you check the pink balloons between 9am and 2pm. There will be secure parking at the back of Taylor’s - the entrance from Cathcart Street will be signposted.Special pink goodies will be on sale for CANSA funds.
