BOWLS is full of action at the moment. The first league match of a series of five, was played against Maritzburg West last Saturday, with mixed fortunes.

Jacques Minnaar, Gerhard Balzer, Roy Thomson and Schalk Jacobz lost to the strong team headed by evergreen Squire Flint. The other team of Jack Drew, Clive Edkins Bryan Paul and Wolfie Lubowitski struggled for the first few ends, but pulled steadily ahead to win 19-18.

The Niba men’s and ladies trips was on Sunday, also with mixed fortunes. The ladies were Erika Fischer, Omo Dinkelmann and Wendy Edwards, who won their first game, only to come second in the next two, but this was good experience.

The men’s team, Jacques Minnaar, Tony Smith, André Roberts and Chris Fischer, had a welcome return for the last game, fared better, winning the first game, lost their second by a single point, but won their third.

Also coming up is the postponed Bracken fun day on Sunday 15 October, which promises to bring fun, if not some rain.
