G911 Bass Fishing competition

2018-10-03 06:02

THE annual G911 Bass Fishing competition fundraiser, organised by the Umvoti Agricultural Society (UAS), is being held on Saturday, November 17.

Registration is from 5 am at the Bridgeford dam’s Jondol venue, near Greytown (S29º 6’13.5” E30º 41’42”). Lines in will be at 5.30 am.

There will be seven dams available within a 9km radius, 13.5km of dam frontage and 122ha of water to fish.

The first prize is R4 000 for the longest bass.

Entrance fees are R120 for seniors and R70 for under 12 years.

After the popularity of the swindle entry the last two years, this will again be an option; for an extra R30 the longest bass bag will win the swindle.

Lines up at 3.30 pm and the scales will close at 4 pm.

The competition is open to carp and barbel and there are numerous other prizes, including junior prizes, up for grabs.

There will be a fun trail run/walk again this year.

There will be two options — a 5km and a 10km option.

Registration is at 7.30 am and the start is at 8 am. Entry cost is R40 per person for the 5km and R60 for the 10km.

Over the past few years, this annual fund raiser has raised a generous amount of funds, from donations and entrance fees from the competition, for the local G911 centre in Greytown.

The planned use for the funds which have been raised over the last couple of years is to install a Licence Plate Recognition System in the Greytown area. This is an integrated security surveillance system that incorporates military grade applications.

The intention is for this system to be placed on all major roads entering and exiting our district — it is felt that this system will benefit the entire community by detecting, through licence plates, undesirable vehicles entering or leaving the Umvoti district.

Through the support from the Umvoti community, the UAS have been able to meet a large portion of the budget, and are hopeful that with another successful fishing competition they will be able to meet their target and implement this long awaited project.

Enquiries for the fishing competition can be directed to uas@umvoti.co.za or Neale Harman on 082 332 7085.
