START training now for the fun Coddiwomple relay run on Sunday 23 October, which will start and finish at the Beehive.

Teams of four, each one doing a five-kilometre loop, will run on the night trail routes (with some adjustments) with the grand finale being a massive water slide.

There are however various options:

• Full four-member team, each runner does a 1,5km lap. Entry is R400.

• Two-member team, each runner completes 10km. Entry is R200.

• Individual 10km, runner completes first two routes. Entry is R100.

• Individual 15km, runner completes first three routes. Entry is R100.

• Individual 20km, runner completes entire course. Entry is R100.

Entries are now open on the website and photos and information on Facebook: Coddiwomple Relay Run

The Greytown Gazette asked where the name “Coddiwomple” came from and one of the organisers Hilary Bruss replied: “To start with we wanted something different and unique for our trail name, and saw the word Coddiwomple and the definition - ‘to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination’ - was just absolutely perfect.”

On a more serious running note Greytown Firebreak trail runners entered the Run the Berg competition two weekends ago. Congratulations to Kwenza Ngubane who won the extreme main race, completing a 50km run over the two days in a record -reaking time.

Elzare Slatter came fourth in the ladies challenge - 30km over the two days.
Hilary Bruss, Deon Bruss and Louise Yeadon also competed and completed.

As reported in last week's Greytown Gazette, Kwenza Ngubane has set up a trail club to train and facilitate youngsters through the Shoebox challenge and anyone without a pair of running shoes will be given a pair.
