“PINKTOBER” is the theme for this year’s Cancer Awareness Day, set to take place in Greytown on Saturday, October 20 in the Greytown community hall from 9 am to 2 pm.

Pink is the colour associated internationally with breast cancer — even national rugby teams wear pink outfits to highlight the awareness about breast cancer in men and women

This is the eighth year such an event has been held in Greytown, not only to raise awareness of cancer, but also to raise funds to assist in various cancer awareness projects.

The event is organised by Greytown’s Superbody Club and entry fee is R5.

Organiser Zeenath Ally of Greytown Superbody Club told the Greytown Gazette that everyone who attends is asked to support the theme by wearing something pink.

During the morning there will be a Shavathon where you can either have your head shaved or spray painted in a range of colours, which do wash out.

One of the highlights of the day will be an auction to raise funds for cancer awareness. All proceeds from the event will go to various cancer organisations.

There will also be talks from cancer survivors during the morning to put the message across about the importance of regular check-ups and emphasise the importance of early detection and a healthy lifestyle.

Last year the cancer awareness event raised a substantial amount that was donated to the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Stalls are available at R100.
