AN albatross is what golfers call the feat of hitting a golf ball in the hole using only two strokes on a par 5 hole, which is on average 500 metres long.

It is an incredibly rare feat, but this is what Gareth Larkan achieved on Saturday December 2 at the last Mascor Monthly Mug of 2017.

He did it on hole 11, with his father, Tubby, Peter Hardy and Owen Naidoo witnessing his miracle second shot of approximately 250 metres ending up in the hole.

Nobody has achieved this feat on the Greytown Golf Course, if ever, then at least since 1980, but we stand corrected. Well done Gareth - he made it count because he also ended up the winner of the mug, and A division, on 63 net, a fantastic score in very windy conditions.Second was John-Lloyd Rawstorne on 65 net. B division: 1st Martin Bloy on 64 net, second was Bigboy Ngonyama on 66 net.

Final Mascor/NLC Golf Business League match of 2017 was also played on Saturday December 2 with eight teams participating.

The teams were Rhino Charcoal, CPS, Bracken, Pannar, Gtn Development, GTN Umvoti, Kombat and Mascor.

The league is contested over four Saturdays during the year and consists of teams of three players representing businesses from the Umvoti district.

The Mascor Business League floating trophy is at stake. The winner on the day was Greytown Umvoti with 109 points. The final results of the league will be announced at our AGM in February 2018, when prize giving will also take place. We thank Mascor Greytown for sponsoring the prizes. We remind golfers, especially novices, of the Hackers Christmas bring and take on Saturday December 9. Enter in teams of four, which must include one handicapped golfer. The format will be 4 ball American scramble. Entry is one gift of approximately R40. Individual entries are most welcome. Please phone Ashley or the bar staff at the club to enter.

Justin le Roux was not present and did not win the members’ draw, which rolls over to next week.
