Greytown Country Club news

2019-04-17 06:01

THE 2019 Greytown Country Club Golf Championship was played on April 13 and April 14.

We golfers are fortunate indeed that all the KZN golf clubs are expected to have their annual championships generally during April every year, autumn in the KZN Midlands being a wonderful time to be out on the golf course. All the marvellous autumn sights, sounds and smells remind us that we are truly blessed.

Farmers’ Agricare agreed to be the new sponsor of our annual golf championship. We are extremely grateful to them and we welcome them aboard. We thank Shaun Carroll of Farmers Agricare for handing out the trophies and prizes at the prize giving ceremony.

Taking inspiration from the way Tiger did it again at the Masters in Augusta, Bheki Mlangeni became our new men’s club champion with a score of 145 gross. Second was Oscar Ndawonde on 149 gross.

The rest of the results were as follows: B-div: Bigboy Ngonyama 165 gross; C-div: Vijay Roopai 70 pts; Best net overall: Flip Botha 138 net; Seniors: Egon Kassier 33 pts.

Stableford winner on day one was David Cunningham and day two was Flip Botha.

Due to fixture list congestion, we also played the April Mascor Monthly Mug on Saturday. The winners were: A division: David Cunningham 67 net; B division: Flip Botha 71 net.

Our sincere gratitude to our greenskeeper Wally Kohne and assistant Humphrey, who presented a very enjoyable golf course.

Our greens were the best we have seen during autumn for a long time.

A big thank you is due to Joanie Koller, who expertly kept our score board up to date during the weekend, as well as Robin and Elenor Furniss for the delicious boerie rolls on Sunday.

Our ladies’ championship will be held at a later date.
