Greytown Country Club news

2019-11-06 06:01

THE annual FNB Greytown Golf Classic was played on November 2. Players from as far as Polokwane, Port Elizabeth and Ballito joined our locals to play for the Greytown Classic Floating Trophy and the wonderful prizes.

Special mention has to be made of Rob Immelman, one of our loyal sponsors, who flew up from Port Elizabeth to play in his 10th Classic. In between the early morning and midday gunshot starts, a big crowd watched our Springboks hammer the old foe into submission and Siya Kolisi lift the trophy. The afternoon field teed off with “Daar Kom die Bokke” ringing in players’ ears and hearts.

We were delighted to welcome FNB as our main sponsor. Our sincere gratitude to FNB and its intrepid “watering hole” team who kept the golfers entertained and well hydrated.

Special mention must be made of the sterling efforts of Wally Kohne, our green keeper who did his utmost, together with the help of Humphrey Msomi and our course staff, to present a playable golf course, despite the severe lack of spring rains.

The winners of the Greytown Classic Floating Trophy for 2019 were Paul du Preez and David Cunningham with a fantastic score of 49 points. Second were Tienie Muller and Marius Muller on 46 oco from Bobby Pearson and M.J. Mook.

We would like to thank all our magnificent sponsors, golfers, Ashley MacDonald and the golf committee of Greytown Country Club, ably guided by Classic chairperson Peter Caljouw and M.J., who did a lot of work to put the Classic “on the planks”.

We would like to remind our golfers of the Moths Golf Day which will be played on November 16. It is a family bring and braai and club happy hour with prizes and discounted drinks. Shannon Preston will be singing in the house and the club will supply pap and sous, rolls and salad.

Please support this worthy cause by entering at the club or by contacting Tubby at 082 558 1765 or Ashley at 033 4172441.
