Greytown Mountain Bike Festival

IT is one of the most popular events on the cycling calendar - the Greytown Mountain Bike festival takes place this year over the weekend of 13th and 14th May with the Beehive as its base

To encourage families to come along for the weekend and all participate there is a range of options for serious and not so serious bikers.and the young ones. The Beehive provides excellent camping facilities with clean ablutions and foods will be on sale throughout the weekend.

Events on the Saturday start at 2pm with a 10km ride and at 2.15pm a 3km ride. An exciting addition this year is the Saturday night 2km relay ride for teams of 3(mixed and junior) starting at 6pm - and the winners are whoever completes the most circuits within the hour.

This will be followed by a get-together for visitors to meet up with Greytown MTB members and have a fun evening together.And Jack Mason's famous potjie will be on sale.

On Sunday it's the Greytown Classics - the 50km ride starts at 8.30am, the 25km ride at 8.45am, a 10km at 9am and 3kms at 9.15am.

Coddiwomple has organised two trail runs in conjunction with the festival. On Saturday a 10 km trail run at 2 p.m. and the main one on Sunday - the Greytown Firetower descent - a 16km run to the Beehive which will start at 8.30am. Transport will be available from the Beehive at 8am to the start.

This a happy weekend for families to get together even if you’re not a biker or a runner it is definitely worth popping in at the Beehive over the weekend.
