Greytown Mountain Bike Festival this weekend

IT’S one of the most popular events on the cycling calendar — the annual Greytown Mountain Bike Festival, which takes place at the Beehive on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13.

There is a range of events for bikers of all ages and abilities — for the serious and not-so-serious bikers, both young and older.

To encourage families to take part and enjoy the festival, the Beehive offers excellent camping facilities.


THE FESTIVAL STARTS WITH FUN RIDES ON SATURDAY:

• 2 pm: 10 km run/ride — entry R40

• 2.15 pm: 3 km run/ride — entry R30

• 4 pm: relay fun ride — entry R100 per person per team of three

•7 pm: night ride — entry R100 per person per team of three

Registration is at 4 pm.

Sunday rides are part of the Greytown Classic, which is a CSA sanctioned event. These are:

• 8am:16 km trail run – R90 entry

• 8.15 am: 10 km run/ride – R40

• 8.25 am: 3 km run/ride – R30

• 8.45 am: 35 km MTB ride – R120

• 8.45 am: 25 km MTB ride – R120

The 16 km Trail Run, 35 km and 25 km can be entered through the ROAG website. Entries close midnight on May 10.

Late entries will be allowed on the day, but a late fee of R20 will be added to the entry fee.

Throughout the weekend food and refreshments will be on sale. On Saturday Jack Mason’s famous potjie and Kinderhuis meals will be on sale.

Local organisations involved in and benefitting from this popular event are GOLF911, Kinderhuis, Arcadia, Wembley College, St Davids School, Kammaland Primary School, Deutsche Schule Hermannsburg and SPCA.
