Greytown MTB Festival this weekend

2017-05-10 06:01

A BIG turnout is expected for the Greytown Mountain Bike festival this weekend as it is regarded as one of the most popular events on the biking calendar.

It caters for all riders - with short distances, family rides and the classic. An exciting innovation this year is the fun night relay ride for teams of three which will be held on Saturday evening.

Also on Saturday there is a 10km family ride at 2pm and a 3km fun ride at 2.15pm. For non-bikers there is a 10km trail run option.

On Sunday the Greytown 50km Classic starts at 8.30am -the route has changed from last year with more speedy downhills, more single tracks and generally more thrills. The 25km intermediate ride starts at 8.45am and is independent of the 50km classic - the ride traverses a combination of open forest roads and rough forest tracks interspersed with more rocky single tracks and some fast open downhills.

Also on Sunday is a 10km at 9am and 3km at 9.15am as well as a 16km descent from Greytown Firetower to the Beehive for runners starting at 8.30am.

There is plenty of activity apart from the rides - camping facilities, food stalls and refreshments throughout the weekend at the Beehive and a social on Saturday night which features Jack Mason's famous potjie on sale.
