WHERE has the time gone?April already and we are fast approaching the start of the pigeon racing season at the end of May. The time of AGMs, training programmes and all the necessary preparations to hopefully ensure a good racing season. The pigeons have had a good moult and are sparkling like diamonds with their new feathering. Here’s hoping they fly as well as they look. During the next few weeks the training baskets come into use and the kilometres start to add up as we hit road to train and get the birds in tip top form. The million dollar race was flown on February 3 — winning pigeon, a South African bird, earned a prize of $200 000 (R2,37 million rand) — should keep it in food for a while. All one needs to compete — R12 000 per bird entrance fee!If there is anyone who is interested in the sport of pigeon racing pleas contact Trevor Tatham on 084 829 9799 to have a chat about this engrossing sport. As we head into the new season full of hope I would like to wish you “good flying”.
