FURTHER to my report on the Million Dollar winning pigeon which won R2.37 million, I have now heard that the parents of that pigeon have been sold to an American fancier for 95 000 US dollars which is approximately R1.15 million. The bird which won the race was ahead by 18 minutes over a distance of 521 km from a field of 1576.Owner of the bird is deceased so the birds will be auctioned off in Alberton on May 26.There is already a bid of nearly a million rand from an American buyer. On Saturday, Greytown Racing Pigeon Club held its annual general meeting. New member Dave Lotter was welcomed and he immediately threatened “dire consequences” once his birds have settled. We have decided to get the public more involved and are planning a race in which there will be prizes for the public. Watch this space. Somehow there seems to be a greater feeling of interest this year. The last two years we were plagued by deaths, illness and general lack of interest. So 2018, here we come — so hold onto your hats, the Greytown boys are back. For more information please phone me, Trevor Tatahm on 084 829 9799.
