Greytown resident sworn in Parliament

ANOTHER resident from Greytown Sibongile Mdlalose-Zuma was sworn in at Parliament as a member of Parliament in Cape Town on May 22. Dlamini-Zuma is a resident of Nhlalakahle location in Greytown. She was born at Dumbe, Mcelwini area in KZN.

Her parents Ambrose and Margaret Zuma were community activists. She is married to Bhoyi Zuma.

“My parents were the first people in Dumbe who became the staunch members of the ANC. My father was the first mayor of Dumbe. He was our source of inspiration and was the one who inspired me to join the ANC.

“I joined the liberation struggle in 1992 where I was appointed the chairperson of the Women’s League and secretary of the ABC. Those were the first branches of the ANC that were launched in the area. By the late Comrades Thoko Nene and Happy Blose. I was following on the footsteps of my sister Comrade Thembisile Hlatshwayo and the Speaker from Dumbe and Ghandi Mashaya.

Zweli Mkhize and Harry Gwala deployed me in Greytown in 1993. I was then appointed the first administrator for the sub region.”

She grew her political career in the ranks of the ANC in sub region until she was appointed to be the administrator of the Greytown Parliamentary Constituency Office.

She worked with Pierre Cronje, chief Zibuse Mlaba, Isaia Ntshangase.

“I then returned to my branch in ward 7 at Nhlalakahle in 20044 from Harry Gwala. I worked in the ANC branch in Greytown. I worked under the leadership of regional secretary Bheki Lembede and deputy secretary Lungile Mabaso.

In 2006 she received numerous awards including the Long Service Award, trophy and certificate. She was also awarded with varios books including, The Long Walk to Freedom, Let My People Go, The Dream Deferred and Remembered.

“I would like to thank the leadership in the Bambatha Region, ANC members and my family for supporting me,”Mdlalose-Zuma added.
