Greytown water update

2015-11-25 06:23

A SPOKESPERSON for the Department of Water and Sanitation told the Greytown Gazette, in response to a query, that the Greytown drought meeting venue has been moved to Dundee in order to ensure better representation from the Umzinyathi District Municipality officials and due to the need to also deal with other supply areas such as Dundee, Glencoe, Msinga and Nqutu.

Umzinyathi has appointed Uthukela Water to assist with the drought intervention projects in Greytown.
The minutes of the last meeting record that a total of about 2.2 megalitres water per day has been sourced from a number of boreholes and a local stream. With the draw-off from the lake suspended, currently approximately 1.5 Ml a day is being supplied and work is under way to connect the balance of the boreholes to the water treatment plant.

The recent rains (24.6 recorded by Pannar last week) have been most welcome, but the South African Weather Services seasonal climate watch report issued on 26 October indicates the high probability of below normal rainfall for the mid and late-summer season so again all residents are requested to continue their positive approach to saving every drop of this most commodity.
