Greytown water update

2016-06-08 06:00

THE level of Lake Merthley on Monday was 13.10%, and no rain predicted

The Greytown Gazette, for the past three weeks, has requested information from Umvoti’s water service providers, Umzinyathi District Municipality, as well as the Department of Water Affairs about the status of the Craigieburn pipeline, however, there has been absolutely no comment or acknowledgement from them, apart from the weekly report on the level of the lake.
More than a month ago it was reported that the Craigieburn pipeline was becoming a “pipe dream” – there has been no official comment since then.

The Greytown Gazette pointed out that Umvoti residents are doing their best to save water and it is in their interest to be kept informed of what is happening.

Constant reports from outlying areas are being received – residents being made to pay for water from tankers, borehole problems, undrinkable water, in Enahlalakhale five Jojos were “stabbed”, but have been sealed by the municipality and in Greytown one Jojo has been stolen.

This is an appeal to someone out there to please inform Umvoti residents as to what plans have been made to cope with the worsening situation.
