HEALTH MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo, along with the leadership of uMshwathi Municipality, officially opened the eMambedwini Clinic near Greytown recently.

According to the Department of Health, the R12 million clinic offers a number of health care services, including an electronic patient database that will ensure patients do not have to wait in long queues to retrieve their files.

The clinic offers, among other services, maternal, child and women’s health services; HIV and AIDS / STI / TB (HAST) services; allied health services; community outreach (schools health services and 13 community care givers); Central Medicine Distribution and Dispensation (CCMDD); and medical male circumcision.

Delighted community member Thandiwe Ndlovu said: “We are grateful to uMshwathi Municipality leadership together with MEC Dhlomo for the official opening of the clinic today. We are now not travelling long distances to KwaGcumisa Clinic — the service provided by the clinic will help us a lot.”

uMshwathi Municipality spokesperson Sibusiso Mkhithi said the people of uMshwathi now have an opportunity to be healthy, prevent diseases, prevent unwanted pregnancies and live longer thorough the services that are provided by the clinic.

Dhlomo urged the public to take advantage of health facilities provided by the government and get used to health screening at least once a year.

Acting mayor of uMshwathi Municipality, Councillor Mlungisi Dlamini, thanked the community for being patient during hard times, saying: “You have witnessed our working together as by today we have opened up the clinic through working together with the Department of Health, same as we used to do to deal with roads, houses, water etc.”
