IT is almost holidays again. This week the primary school and the high school will celebrate their awards ceremonies and honour the achievements of all our pupils through the year before everyone heads off on a well-deserved break.
However, the last week has not been spent idling away the days - the Grade 10s went on a field trip to the Drakensberg for three days, visiting various dams and the Drakensberg Pump Storage Scheme, learning about dam-building and looking at the environmental impact of building dams.
Thanks to Mr and Mrs Elges, Mrs Waller and Mrs van Dyk for again making this a worthwhile educational experience. While the Grade 10s were identifying and cataloguing, the Grade 11s were bivouacking, abseiling and running obstacle course before tackling the daunting and somewhat mysteriously named, yet daunting, “Oliver’s Travels” as they learnt about and put into action ( pardon the pun) “action-centred leadership” at Spirit of Adventure at Shongweni, preparing them for their role as seniors in our school next year.
Thank you to Rudi Clark and his team of instructors at Spirit of Adventure and Mrs Klingenberg for accompanying the intrepid group - it’s all about personal growth and expanding one’s horizons.

Not to be outdone, the birding fraternity was up well before 5am on Saturday for the Birding Big Day. Heading off in different directions, they started spotting a large variety of species from the beginning, identifying 82 different species during the course of the day.
Well done to the nature club’s Mr Terry and Mr van Dyk and all the other avid spotters from the primary school and the high school.
