HOT sun, lots of shouting and some nail-biting finishes marked the annual inter-house swimming gala last Friday at the school swimming pool.
Parents turned out in force, pitching their gazebos and providing refreshments for the thirsty and peckish, while the swimmers vied for position in every race.
In the end, Reedbuck proved the stronger, ending with 972 points to Bushbuck’s 686.

Champions were Leo Kimble and Anya Khan (U8), Julian Königkrämer and Noelle Govender (U10), Cebo Mzila and Kayla Shearing (U12), Jarmin Claassen and Lila de Wet (U14), Sven Klar and Andrea Bam (U16) and Riaan Olivier and Danielle Schweiger (Open).

In the U15 age group, Lydia Köhne and Anna Kremnitzer were joint girls’ champions with Joel Pope the boys’ champion. Kayla Shearing was junior victrix ludorum and Cebo Mzila junior victor ludorum. Sven Klar was senior victor ludorum, with Lila de Wet (who broke two records), the senior victrix ludorum. The Spirit Cup went to Reedbuck. Well done to the swimmers and parents, and thank you to those who helped extend the shade netting for visitors and swimmers.

In the Howick gala our swimmers gained experience and Lila de Wet won the U14 breaststroke event, while in tennis news, our boys played against Treverton B and enjoyed a good afternoon, winning 18-0. Against Voortrekker C they lost 6-12 overall, with Sven Klar winning his singles game 8-1 and Sven and Luke Hayward winning their doubles game 8-4.

In another important field of endeavour, our primary school was placed ninth (social sciences Grade 5) in the national Conquesta Olympiad in 2015. Well done to the teachers in the primary school who prepare our pupils for these Olympiads.
