TENSION ran high with the excitement of last week’s inter-house enviroquiz - the Bushbuck B team took the individual team prize, but the house had to concede the overall win to Reedbuck.
Thanks to Mr Terry, who went to great lengths (as usual) to put together a variety of interesting questions, including a topical video insert that explained the much-debated fracking saga. Two Hermannsburg teams will be participating in the Umvoti Regional Enviroquiz in May, and we look forward to the outcome.

In the swimming pool, Hermannsburg hosted this year’s Umvoti gala, attended by Wartburg, Wembley and New Hanover. The Wartburg first team took first place, followed by the Wembley and New Hanover first teams. The Wembley College second team achieved fourth place, followed by Hermannsburg and the Wartburg second team. Ludwig Herbst (Wembley) was the victor ludorum and Chloe Barnard (New Hanover) was victrix ludorum, while Joshua Cope (Wembley) broke the U10 breaststroke and 25m freestyle records.
Over the weekend Lila de Wet placed fourth in butterfly and sixth in breaststroke at the championships in Pietermaritzburg, while Siena Kimble did well in the U12 breaststroke event at the primary school championships, also in Pietermaritzburg.

In other sporting news, our U15 cricket team lost to Greytown High and the week’s tennis matches were postponed to this week. The Howick relay gala was rained out, but our girls did play tennis against St Anne’s, losing 3-6.

Thank you to all the Grade 7 pupils and their parents who attended our open day on Friday and Saturday, coming from all over the province to see how an education at Hermannsburg can give young people a much-needed school-leaving advantage.
For those who missed out, there will be another open day on 8 and 9 April. Contact John Pope on pro@hmbschool.co.za to register and avoid disappointment.
