THE Children-Helping-Children is our primary school outreach programme, where we support the children from the Umvoti Aids Centre by giving them gifts three times a year.

The aim of this programme is to develop awareness and to encourage the children to give to those less fortunate than ourselves.

With the teachers facilitating this endeavour, the children are encouraged to buy something with their pocket money or to do chores at home to earn the money so that in this way the children themselves are giving to other children. This year the children have enjoyed collecting stationery, canned food, toothpaste and tooth brushes, and we hope these gifts from the children brought smiles to other children who are not as privileged.

Our primary school “Class of 2016” - the Grade 7 pupils - donated a hexagon plastic recycled table-cum-bench to our primary school for the other pupils to enjoy in the years to come.

We are very grateful for this lovely gift, and are looking forward to many break times sitting at this bench, enjoying the shade of the trees and the view over our school dam. Thank you so much, Grade 7s of 2016.

The primary school and Little Oaks Kindergarten have also been collecting milk bottles and any HDPE 2 plastic items. Once we have collected 450kg of this type of plastic, the school will receive a two-seater bench made of sturdy recycled plastic.

Families, neighbours and friends have been roped in by our pupils, and the teachers kept tabs on which pupil collected the most bottles in each grade, with prizes for the three pupils who collected the most each month.

We have made a huge difference in our environment as we are an eco school, and a big thank you goes to every pupil, parent, grandparent and friend of the school who contributed.

We will carry on with this as there are now some high school pupils who have taken it upon themselves to continue with this project.

Last week we held our awards ceremonies as the school year reached its conclusion. Watch this space next week for news about the ceremonies.
