WE congratulate the Class of 2017 and parents on a year of fine achievements, which were celebrated at the awards ceremony last Friday.

From music to cricket, history to mathematics and many achievements in-between, our Grade 12s have made us proud.

Head boy, Hugh Bouwer, was awarded the dux trophy for his academic excellence, and received the following trophies: Alexandra Miruna Ignat Memorial Trophy (mathematics),

Neil Reid Trophy (accounting), the Lombardozzi Trophy (life orientation - shared), Gert and Wynina Jansen van Vuuren Trophy (Afrikaans), Edith Clark Memorial Trophy (English), W and K Schroeder Language Proficiency Trophy, Du Preez Book Prize (advanced programme English), Tudor Ignat Memorial Trophy (physical sciences), Ultimate Creatures CC Trophy (life sciences).

Head girl Christel Brüggemann, received the HMB School Trust Award for environmental studies and the Ulrich Prigge Trophy for German second language. Jessica Shearing was awarded the Class of 1995 matric award for good fellowship and contributions to the class and the school, and the Trustee’s Award for consistent effort.

Luke Hayward was awarded the A.R.T. Maharaj Memorial Trophy (geography), Mel Taylor Trophy (history) and shared the Lombardozzi Trophy (life orientation). Hugh Bouwer, Philile Zuma were awarded the Cockburn Prize for Zulu, and the Trustee’s Award for consistent effort.

Sven Klar was Sportsman of the Year for all-round excellence in a variety of sports. Elisabeth Tönsing was awarded the KZN German Cultural Council Prize for German home language.

Meike Meyer received the Siegfried Prigge Award and the Trustee’s Award for consistent effort. David Cunningham was awarded the Trustee’s Award for consistent effort.

There was also a host of honour, colours, half-colours and merit awards for sport and cultural, as well as academic, endeavour.

The matric dance followed on Saturday, and Ms Steyn, the art teacher, and the Grade 11 class and parents produced a stunning venue and a most convivial evening.

Our Grade 12 pupils dressed to the nines and awed the crowd at the hall waiting for their arrival in their outfits.

We wish them well as they use this week to study and make their final preparations for the examinations.
