Hermannsburg happenings

2018-05-23 06:01

AS our pupils and teachers enjoy their mid-term break, we are thankful to everyone who contributed to this year’s Schulfest, celebrating 162 years of our school.

Seeing so many of our old pupils and friends of our school, and spending time with them in relaxed good spirits, was fantastic.

On Friday, our choir received a standing ovation at the music recital, following superb performances by soloists and our music teachers, before everyone enjoyed a convivial evening around the bonfires.

Primary school and high school hockey and 7s rugby dominated the morning’s activities, and in the afternoon the tractor rides, “train” rides, mechanical bull “rides”, Old Scholar hockey and many other activities ensured that there was something for everyone to enjoy on Saturday. The church service in the marquee on Sunday was a fitting close to the weekend.

We thank every helping hand and sponsor, whether in cash or kind, for their contributions towards the success of this year’s Schulfest.

Our girls’ 1st hockey team played against Domino Servite (1-1) and Alexandra High (0-0), while our U16 girls played and won against Curro Mount Richmore (1-0), Domino Servite (1-0) and drew with Alexandra High (0-0). The U14 team won against Alexandra High (2-0), and our U11 girls won against Wartburg (1-0) but ended 0-1 against Greytown Junior School.

The Grade 2 girls had tremendous fun playing against Wartburg (winning 1-0) and Greytown Junior School (where they ended 0-5).

Our U18 7s rugby team played against Faithway College and Maritzburg Christian School in a three-way tournament.

We wish our Grade 10s safe travels and a wonderful, enriching time in Germany, as they leave South Africa behind tomorrow to spend four weeks in Germany with their host families, touring various historical and contemporary sites and immersing themselves in the culture of this prominent European nation. We look forward to hearing about their experiences.
