Hermannsburg happenings

2018-07-11 06:02

WE’RE halfway through the winter holiday, and our thoughts are beginning to turn towards the second half of the year.

While we trust that our pupils and teachers are still enjoying their time off school, we have a variety of events and activities for everyone to look forward to in the new term.

The inter-house athletics tournament is just one of the highlights of the term for our pupils, but before that our Enviroquiz team will participate in the national final in Pietermaritzburg, having won the regional contest last term.

There’s more, however, as the music department prepares for the HMB Eisteddfod, and the primary school presents this year’s play before going on camp — the Grade 7s will again travel to the Cape, and the Grade 1 to 6 classes will spend three days in the outdoors closer to home.

Towards the end of the term in mid-September, our high school team will compete against schools from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Windhoek and Accra (Ghana) in the biennial “Sportolympiade”, which is being held in Windhoek this year. Afterwards, the team and the group of supporters will have the opportunity to tour southern Namibia.

While they’re away, the ever-popular HMB Golf Day will be held at St Cathryn’s Golf Estate (golfday@hmbschool.co.za).

We will not neglect all the usual school activities as the Grade 12s prepare for their trial examinations and the Deutsches Sprachdiplom examination (DSD II), with our Grade 10s writing the DSD I.

On September 1 and 2 our high school will host an Open Day for Grade 6 pupils looking to enter Grade 8 in 2020 — this will be the ideal opportunity for parents and pupils to see for themselves the benefits that our school offers its pupils (wecare@hmbschool.co.za).
