On your marks...get set...GO!

Our Sport Olympiad team left Hermannsburg on Friday evening to drive non-stop to Windhoek via Botswana, arriving there on Saturday evening.

After a day to acclimate and do some last-minute shopping on Sunday, the highlight of the weekend was the opening ceremony on Sunday evening, with its displays and processions to welcome the six schools represented at the Olympiad.

Our team will be competing in track and field for the athletics, in the swimming pool, on the soccer field and on the ball courts, where they will play basketball, volleyball and handball.

We wish them stamina and flair as they bring the Hermannsburg spirit of good sportsmanship to the competition.

In other sports news, the boys’ tennis team played against St Charles, winning 30-14, while the girls’ team played Epworth to a narrow 16-20 finish.

Hermannsburg’s athletes participated in the co-ed meeting at Voortrekker, where Kirsten Rabe placed first in 400m, Johanna Fuchs placed first in the 400m and long-jump, Dieter Volker was first in 1500m and second in 800m, and Asanda Nzimande placed second in shot putt.

On the hockey field, our U13 boys won 2-0 against Wartburg and our Grade twos played Wembley (2-1), New Hanover (1-4) and Wartburg (0-5) while the Grade ones played New Hanover (3-0), Wembley (2-1) and Wartburg (2-0).

On Friday and Saturday we look forward to the 26th HMB Golf Day (4BBBS, staggered tee-off times with both Friday and Satur- day scores considered for prizes), which will be held at St Cathryn’s Golf Estate again this year.

The field has been filling up, but there are still some slots available — why not come and join us for a round of golf?
