PINK, blue, green, red and colours between — our pupils showed their support for CHOC, the Childhood Cancer Foundation, last week after several weeks of creating awareness of the plight of children suffering from cancer.

Everyone gathered at the sports fields where ribbons were distributed and hair was sprayed to visibly demonstrate our pupils’ and teachers’ engagement with this important foundation’s goals.

Earlier during the week, representatives from CHOC addressed the school about childhood cancer and its effects, and the support that is so important to battle this disease.

“Loud”, “entertaining”, “talented musicians” were the comments from some of those who attended the concert by the Big Band of the Herbartgymnasium Oldenburg, visiting from Germany.

The brass ensemble, accompanied by piano and drums, delivered foot-stomping numbers that encouraged dancing along to the rhythm.

Vocal soloist Helene Stenzel, who visited our school the previous week, having attended Hermannsburg a few years ago, also received enthusiastic applause for her performance.

Thank you to Mr Grobler, our director of music, our school choir and the teachers accompanying the Big Band for all the hard work behind the scenes that made this event possible, and a big thank you to the members of the Big Band!
