FOLLOWING weeks of practice and anticipation, our brass band and choir performed at the East Griqualand Encounter near Kokstad over the weekend. Based at Rietfontein Farm and Flitwick Ranch, they entertained the patrons who enjoyed the beautiful gardens, delicious food and the delightful background music. Our pupils enjoyed the opportunity to see another part of our country and the experience of performing for a new and appreciative audience. Many thanks go to Mr Johan Grobler (our director of music) and Mr Siggi Prigge (our brass band director) for organising this weekend away for the music pupils, and to Mr Trevor Harbottle (our principal) for his participation, encouragement and support.Hermannsburg’s Primary and Pre-Primary School music pupils showcased their musical talent at the annual recital afternoon on Wednesday, October 24. Every one of them performed wonderfully at the recital with recorder, trumpet, voice, violin, and piano performances — well done to all of the musicians involved! We are very fortunate to have such musical talents among our pupils. Our thanks go to Mrs Ingrid Köhne, Mrs Elisabeth Wortmann, and Mrs Annette Bouwer for their teaching and for accompanying several of the musicians. We congratulate our prefects for 2019 — Sinqobile Mngoma, Angelika Meyer, Lydia Köhne, Liteboho Mosheshe, Ivan Mohlala, Clara Kohrs, Dieter Volker and Ntandoyenkosi Mpungose — on their election. They were formally inducted into the office of prefect during the Monday morning devotion where our principal, Mr Trevor Harbottle, reminded us all of the concept and principles of servant leadership before Pastor René Risch conducted the induction ceremony and spoke words of blessing over them and their new responsibilities. With this public undertaking to fulfill their roles as servant leaders in our school, we wish our new prefects strength for the tasks ahead and every success in their endeavours, not forgetting to thank our outgoing prefects of 2018 for their service this year.Last week our open cricket team batted first against Wartburg, setting a target of 174 for five after 20 overs (Jonathan Königkrämer 45).
