“HERZLICH Willkommen” — this year’s Germany Exchange Programme visitors from HAP Grieshaber Gymnasium in Reutlingen, Germany, were warmly welcomed when they arrived at King Shaka International Airport last week. From there they were whisked off to Sugar Bay to become better acquainted with their Hermannsburg partners, with whom they had only corresponded by e-mail up to now. Each of our Grade 10 pupils hosts a partner or two from Reutlingen, and will in turn be hosted in June and July in Germany. During their four weeks in South Africa, visitors will experience our school environment, the Drakensberg and KZN Midlands, Weenen Game Reserve and the Magwaza Potters before ending their visit with time at Eagle’s Nest. We wish them a rich and rewarding experience during their stay with us.Our U15 Hockey boys, some of them playing competitively for the first time, took to the field on April 5 against Carter High. Despite the rain that started falling, the boys put up a tremendous show and Andile Mpanza put the ball into the goal before the end of the first half. Carter attacked diligently in the second half, but were denied an equaliser by HMB’s gutsy, “last-ditch” defending. The character displayed by our team exemplified the value of commitment that our school nurtures. — Supplied.
