Hermannsburg happenings

2019-06-19 06:01

IT’S officially winter and in a scant two weeks the shortest day of the year will dawn (coincidentally on the day we start our winter holiday). Our High School and some of our Primary School scholars have finished writing exams, and we are back into the swing of teaching and learning new facts and skills. Our boarders were able to take a break from studying during the examinations to watch some rugby in Durban - thanks go to the boarding staff for the organisation and to Eatfresh for sponsoring the tickets. Two weeks ago, four of our teachers participated in the Arcadia General Knowledge Quiz in Greytown, to help raise funds for the old age home. Eighteen teams participated and we congratulate all the teams on their general knowledge, but especially Hermannsburg’s team ‘Kandaze’ for winning the quiz. Sincere thanks go to the organisers and to Arcadia for hosting a most enjoyable evening. After the exams last week, many of our scholars geared up for the inter-house enviroquiz this week, where Bushbuck and Reedbuck put on their thinking-caps to see who knows most about the plants and animals that inhabit our beautiful country. Our Grade 10s are now in Germany, where they will spend four weeks with their German ‘parents’ and exchange partners, experiencing everyday life and seeing a host of historic and interesting sights as they go on various excursions. This invaluable learning experience for our scholars cannot be matched by anything they do in a classroom with four walls, and its effects are felt long after they return to South Africa.
