PARENTS and pupils were greeted with broad smiles by the prefects, boarding staff and teachers on Sunday as they returned to Hermannsburg for the 2020 school year. “New faces” were warmly welcomed before the pupils went down to the sports fields for fun sport and games while their parents attended the parents’ AGM in the church hall. At the AGM, school principal Trevor Harbottle introduced the staff and delivered welcome news regarding growth in the primary school and upcoming upgrades and improvements in the school. He was followed by former pupil Zola Mkumla, whose company now owns the school, who shared his vision for Hermannsburg, ensuring that parents left the AGM confident that their children are in good hands and will continue to receive the excellent education for which Hermannsburg is known. The school said in a statement: “We look forward to an exciting school year, with the ‘Dustbuster’ series (the successor to the Mudman series, incorporating an enticing new format) starting at Hermannsburg on February 2, the Sport Olympiade in Johannesburg in March (with schools from SA, Namibia, Ghana, and Ethiopia competing), Schulfest 164 in May, Heritage Trail in June, and the Primary School play and HMB Golf Day in September being just some of the highlights.” Grade 10 pupils will again have the opportunity to host, and be hosted by their German partners for four weeks at a time — truly the most cost-effective and far-reaching cultural exchange — in March and June. The management of the school wished pupils, parents, teachers and school family a blessed, peaceful and rewarding year ahead. — Supplied.
