WITH the help of “Letterland”, our Little Oaks in Grade RR are already being introduced to all 26 letters of the alphabet. Letterland is a unique, phonics-based approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling, where the Letterland characters transform plain black letter shapes into child-friendly pictograms - and they all live in a wonderful, imaginary place called Letterland. Simple stories about the Letterland characters are used to explain the full range of dry phonics facts, so that our children are motivated to listen, to think and to learn. Abstract letter shapes are transformed into motivating and engaging pictogram characters that provide memory hooks for all the letter shapes and sounds. Each week the Grade RR’s are introduced to a new letter - last week it was Clever Cat’s turn (or, as we know it outside of Letterland: the letter C). Before we know it, they will be starting to read three to four-letter words.
