LAST weekend two of our teachers, Mrs Malzahn and Mrs Hoffmann, attended the National German Teachers’ Conference, organised by the Goethe Institute South Africa in Durban.

A literary beach walk started the conference, which had the theme “Literary explorations: Experience Stories and make them Experienceable”.

The next three days saw our teachers participating in a variety of interesting workshops and listening to even more interesting speakers.

The highlight was the Inanda Ntuzuma Kwamashu Writers’ Trail, where the group stopped at the Phoenix Settlement to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, who lived there for 10 years, the Ohlange Institute, founded by Jon Dube in 1901 - Nelson Mandela cast his vote in the first democratic election in 1994 there - and the Inanda Seminary, the first secondary school exclusively for African girls in southern Africa.

Our teachers returned to Hermannsburg having expanded their knowledge and with new ideas to make the teaching experience for our pupils, including the Little Oaks, more interesting and memorable.
