Hermannsburg Little Oaks’ oracle

2018-02-07 06:01

OVER 130 children braved the light drizzle on Saturday to swim, cycle and run in the 2018 aQuellé Mudskipper event in Hermannsburg.

They lined up along the sides of the swimming pool, jittery with anticipation, some already with their swimming goggles in place.

They had already laid out their towels, parked their bikes, and placed their helmets and running shoes within easy reach at the transition area.

Due to the strict safety regulations, the racers were scheduled in waves from the youngest (three-year-olds) first, to the oldest competitors at 14 years old, who started last. When the first group of three to six-year-olds jumped into the cool water, you could hear the loud cheers and flashing cameras of the parents on the bank beside the pool.

After the swim, moms and dads helped to put on the T-shirts, helmets and shoes, and then the kids were off, on everything from Barbie-themed bikes to BMX bikes, from training wheels to tri-bikes, they raced with what they could bring and pushed themselves through the cycle course. On the running course, the highlight was the water slide. Each competitor proudly took home a medal, a goodie bag and an aQuellé water bottle.

After the Mudskipper, the moms and dads had their turn at the “big” Mudman and everyone cheered and welcomed them at the finish line.

We thank all our sponsors who made the adventure possible for us and to all the moms and dads who helped so willingly with registration, marshalling or catering.
