DRESSED in gumboots and comfortable clothing, our Little Oaks went to Mr Rainer Kassier's farm last Monday to get a closer look at vegetables and fruits. There was “no” time for flash cards because we could see, touch, smell and taste the real things. Our pupils gained a deeper understanding about the growing of vegetables, the life cycle of a pumpkin and the parts of a plant. We were allowed to take many different types of vegetables and fruits back to the kindergarten, to learn all the different names, and to explore the insides of some of them. A big thank you goes to the Kassier family for allowing us to invade their vegetable patch — we know now that vegetables don’t grow on supermarket shelves, but from seeds, in the soil.
