HOME advantage paid off for local team Ubunye FC as they played their way to victory at a SAB Soccer Giants Tournament at King Edward Park on September 22.

Various soccer teams locked horns at the event, which culminated in the first semi-final between Ubunye FC and Real Mbuba, with Ubunye FC taking a 3-2 victory, while the Crusaders and One Touch clashed in the second semi-final, with the Crusaders emerging victorious. Doing battle for runners up was Real Mbuba and One Touch, with Real Mbuba coming out on top.

The finals, between Ubunye FC and Crusaders, saw Ubunye FC take the match 2-1 to be crowned the champions of the Heritage Day tournament.

Ubunye FC media officer Siyabonga Makhathini, Thokozani “Bikkie” Dlamini and Nqobani Zondi organised the event.

Speaking on the tournament, Makhathini said: “Special thanks to our referee, Lungisani Ngubane; coach of Ubunye FC Thokozani “Bikkie” Dlamini and his assistant Sihle Sithole; coach of One Touch Tii; coach of Crusaders Mr Ngubane and his assistant Khozo Zuma; Mzamo Mzobe from Real Mbuba; and all the team managers who made this tournament a success. We are still looking for potential players to join the team.”
