IN the second incident in a month some uncaring cruel person has dumped young kittens in the “wilds” obviously in the hope of killing them. These irresponsible, unsociable and not nice people are too lazy to make a phone call to Greytown SPCA, which will collect and take care of such harmless four-leggeds as follows in this statement from Sylvan Havemann of Greytown SPCA.

“This is addressed to those persons who are getting rid of their unwanted kittens by dumping them on main roads in the middle of nowhere.

“We appreciate that the person/s perpetrating this deed will be beyond shame, but hopefully we can get through to others with this intention by informing them that they need only to phone Greytown SPCA on 072 096 9634 and we will collect the animals from you, so that this sort of cruelty can be avoided.

“Two small kittens were seen running across the Muden road. One of these was found two days later by someone kind enough to take time to rescue him - soaking wet and starving.

“The other kitten has not been found - left to wander, frightened, until it will no doubt starve to death. This is the second such occurrence in the space of a month, the first having been near Pannar where one kitten was run over and the other two never found.

Please will people be on the lookout for anyone dumping animals and contact us with any information they may have.”

Yet another two kittens were found by a farm worker on the Muden road as she came into work last Thursday morning. These two have been rescued and will survive – but what about all the other young kittens that callous cruel socalled human beings are dumping?

- Sylvan Havemann,
Greytown SPCA
