THE Wartburg Kirchdorf School family once again very successfully hosted the Illovo Wartburg MTB Classic and Trail Run, a Roag Series Challenge, on February 10.

Runners and riders were welcomed at the school fields for registration from 5 am. This year, with the title sponsors on board once again, special thanks must go to Darrel de Wet and the management of Illovo South Africa for supporting this MTB race, Wartburg Kirchdorf school and the Wartburg community as a whole.

A special thanks also to the farmers of the area who open up their land, cleared and cut to get it ready for the many riders participating in the race.

The weather predicted heavy rain but closer to race day the South African summer sun shone bright and clear, scorching all on the track and trail.

The organisers expressed their thanks to all the participants who were there to cycle and run through some of the most beautiful and scenic farms in the country.

The winners

Illovo 65 km marathon race: Andrew Johnson and Andrea de Boer.

Illovo 45 km Classic race: Sam Moore and Ilse van Niekerk.

BP/Supa Quick 25 km ride: Brandon Dale and Emily van Heerden.

Many thanks to all the WKS parents, staff and pupils who volunteered on the day, at registration, water tables, marshalling and catering.
