LAST week saw the successful launch of the Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (Imatu) in Greytown with national president Stanley Khoza addressing a meeting of members at Mgeba Lodge.

The president outlined the benefits for members of Imatu, which is one the fastest growing unions in South Africa representing members across all municipalities and is not aligned or affiliated to any political party.

Speaking on behalf of the Greytown members, a spokesperson told the Greytown Gazette that “we are looking forward to being part of this union which will protect our rights and because it is not affiliated to any political party will not interfere with our work”.

Imatu members expressed the view that Imatu would protect them from any unfair labour practices and would benefit all.

Members also promised Umvoti residents and councillors that, as public servants, they will continue to work hard to clean and maintain Umvoti .
