THE entire Wembley College School is mourning the death of Andries van Rooyen aged 2, son of Ingrid and Gert Van Rooyen, who died unexpectedly on February 1.

Andries was part of our Grade RRRR class. His loss has broken the hearts of teachers, parents and pupils at our school. Our headmaster, teachers and head girls attended his funeral on Thursday, February 8, at the Hermannsburg church.

The school would like to plant a tree in the gardens next to his classroom as a tribute to him — a place where pupils, teachers and parents can reflect on his loss. His beautiful, energetic and playful character will live on in our school memory.

Our headmaster, Mr Swart, said: “We are all devastated, both pupils and staff, at the loss of one of our youngest school members. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Van Rooyen family at this difficult time.”

Michael Yeadon, chairperson of the school and the board members at Wembley College, ask the school body to keep the Van Rooyen family in their thoughts and prayers.
