LINDO came to Khayalami when he was about four years old, and all we know about him is what he has told us as no relatives have ever been traced.

He said he knew his mother was dead because he saw her being put in the ground.

After her death, Lindo stayed with an “uncle” but, because he used to wet himself, he was always beaten. One day he was taken to town where his “uncle” asked someone selling outside a shop to look after him while he went inside.

Lindo’s “uncle” never returned and Lindo was eventually taken to the police station. The police and a social worker brought him to the Khayalami Children’s Village that evening.

This was seven years ago, and Lindo has had three operations since then, trying to rectify a bladder/kidney problem which he was born with.

He spent months of his life at Greys Hospital (where they were great with him, it was like his second home) and now towards, the end, a lot at Albert Luthuli in Durban as well.

He did home dialysis four times a day. He was a very brave and special boy and we were so privileged to share these seven years with him!

Last week Wednesday, when we visited him, he was struggling to breathe even with an oxygen mask on.

That evening, he passed away in the arms of his house mother who was with him at the hospital.

We held his funeral in the hall at Khayalami on Saturday, it was 2.5 hours of tears and memories as Pastor Masikane shared the word of God.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported, prayed and cared for us through this difficult time!

The Bible tells us not to mourn as those who have no hope as we know Lindo is with his true Father, joyful and with no pain!
