WEMBLEY College hosted their first Umzinyathi District Gala on Saturday, January 26.

Poor weather did not dishearten the 45 swimmers from participating.

Due to the rezoning of swimming districts, Wembley are no longer able to swim under UMgungundlovu District. Thus the school took the initiative to set up the Umzinyathi Swimming District. All the schools in the district were invited to participate.

On Sunday, at the KZN Aquatics AGM in Durban, the Department of Sport and Recreation was impressed with what has been achieved in the new district in such a short time.

The Umzinyathi Swimming District will assist with development swimming. “Water Safe” is going to be a new, ongoing, development programme for children to learn water safety skills to help prevent drowning.

Wembley is looking forward to hosting more galas and watching children grow and develop in their swimming careers.
