It stinks. But who cares?

I am writing to your paper as another step subsequent to others taken in trying to have a blocked drain in front of my house cleared.

I reported it to my ward councillor, who has done his best to have me helped, but the powers that be in our municipality let him down by doing nothing.

The drain is stinking and it provides a convenient breeding place for mosquitoes, which storm my house every night.

Sometimes we are good at attacking councillors, saying they are doing nothing, when they have reported to the responsible officials who just don’t care.

They do not do anything about the Nyokana stream, which divides the township and stinks because of the sewage flowing into it through burst pipes.

This drain was looked at four weeks ago by a municipal official who promised to be back to sort it out.

But it’s four weeks later and nothing has been done and to make it more unacceptable, the stinking overflow flows into the house of an elderly sickly lady.

It really is a disgrace that the employees are letting not only the municipality down but the councillors and the residents and themselves.
