Join the Greytown Neighbourhood Watch

2018-03-14 06:01

GREYTOWN Neighbourhood Watch Committee (GNWC) held a meeting last Friday at the Greytown Community Centre, to update residents on security awareness and to encourage participation from all. Joe Maharaj is chairman of the GNWC.

To the .048% of Greytown residents who attended, the committee members are very appreciative of their support. However, it is sad to note the many who consider their safety and security to be of no consequence.

Those present were pleased to meet the recently appointed SAPS commander Colonel Mavundla, who gave a commitment to work with the GNW committee.

Thanks were also expressed to the municipal speaker Wilson Khoza and two councillors.

GNW committee administrator Rishad Jaenant gave a slide show and educational talk on the WhatsApp group rules and features, followed by an extended discussion among those present.

Ganga Moodley gave a talk on behalf of the three security companies that support the GNWC.

Those who are already members of the Greytown Neighhbourhood Watch are aware of many instances where a crime has been prevented, a criminal arrested, goods recovered, even lost dogs found, thanks to the very efficient WhatsApp monitored 24/7 by the GNWC and G911.

Residents in general need to be involved in this. They need to attend meetings.

They need to get to know their neighbours and residents in their respective streets, and last but not least, to become members of one of the three security companies, this point is of vital importance for a proactive stance towards crime prevention and safety and security.
