THE life of Mjintini residents in Msinga will never be the same again following the switch-on of 124 local households by KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube on April 16.

The switch-on was a significant moment for the residents. Resident Nokubonga Mchunu (24) said life will change now that they have electricity. “Previously, we could not buy much meat because we had no electricity but now, thanks to this project that has changed [our lives], we are able to charge our phones and use fridges, which is a great convenience,” said Mchunu.

The electrification of the households was the result of a R4 million investment by KZN Cogta.

Another resident, Thandi Magwaza (68), was also a delighted recipient of electricity. She expressed her appreciation for the new electric appliances, furniture and groceries that were donated to her.

The MEC encouraged residents to report those who need electricity the most and said the visited households were identified by other members of the community who generously disregarded their own issues.

Dube-Ncube urged people to use electricity wisely and to report anyone who attempts to make illegal connections. — Supplied.
