ON Friday 2 December, Greytown Junior School held its annual prize giving to celebrate and award the school’s top achievers in the classroom and on the sports field. The hall was filled with eager and excited pupils and parents, family and friends.

Beginning with a report on the school’s progress by Principal Mr S.J. Nel, the ceremony moved on with the school choir followed by the senior primary awards for their hard work, their excellent achievements showing that pupils always “aim high”.

Guest of honour, Umvoti Mayor Thami Ngubane spoke about how the present and future were linked and that hard work and perseverance now would allow them to reap many rewards in the future.

The recipients of the dux, Taaiba Sayed, sports boy of the year, Nkazimulo Mzolo and sports girl of the year Saneliso Dlomo were true examples of how hard work and perseverance leads to great rewards.

Prize winners were: Grade 4: Zekhethelo Madlala, Grade 5: Chantell Chitsa and Grade 6: Michaela Dutton.

Special awards: Service to the school: Mongezi Langa, good fellowship (boys): Nkanyiso Mlebuke and good fellowship (girls): Firdous Hoosen.

Prefects management team 2017:

Head boy: Lungani Mkhonto; head girl: Michaela Dutton, deputy head boy: Mawande Khumalo; and deputy head girl: Anelisa Mthembu.

The school expressed its appreciation to sponsors St James Ladies Guild, Pannar, Aheers Trading, Build it, Greytown Drugstore, Nedbank and all the individuals who helped in this successful function.
