ON May 11 the U13 hockey girls took part in a day/night hockey tournament at New Hanover.

The girls were outstanding and showed great team work. They won one game, lost one and drew four. Kiara Govender saved the team a few times with her great goal-keeping skills.

The U9 hockey players travelled to New Hanover on Wednesday, May 16.

Both teams played two games. The U9’s won one and drew the other.

The U10 hockey girls also play a triangular tournament on May 17. They unfortunately lost both their games.

The Grade 2 hockey side played two games against Hermannsburg and Wartburg on May 19.

Greytown won 5-0 against Hermannsburg and won 4-0 against Wartburg. Well done to the girls, they played extremely well.

The U11 hockey side played two games against Hermannsburg and Wartburg. The girls won 1-0 against Hermannsburg and won 4-1 against Wartburg. Both the teams enjoyed themselves to the fullest.

On Saturday, May 12 the U11 rugby side played against Drakensview.

Greytown applied early pressure and scored two early tries. Greytown’s defence stood firm and the end score was 48-0 in Greytown's favour.

Greytown Junior’s U13 rugby side played against Drakensview.

Their attacking strategy worked as they managed to score early tries.

Greytown kept applying pressure and the end score was 52-0 in their favour.

On Wednesday, May 16 the Grade 1 and two mini-rugby sides travelled to St Charles.

The Grade 1 side played three games, winning two.

The Grade 2 side played three games, drawing one and losing two.

On Saturday, May 19 the U13 rugby side played against Piet Retief.

Greytown applied early pressure and scored three early tries.

Piet Retief played much better in the second half with Greytown having to work much harder to retain possession. Greytown eventually won the game 44-10.

The U10 rugby side also played a game against Piet Retief and lost 10-0.

Greytown Junior’s pupils Andiswa Myaka, Melokuhle Govender and Fikile Mabuza took part in a Provincial IKO Karate Tournament that was held in Mayville at Wiggins Community hall on Saturday, May 12.

The children obtained the following positions: Andiswa Myaka and Fikile Mabuza were in the same age division of 12-13 years and competed very well with Andiswa going into finals and obtaining a second place. Fikile obtained a third place.

Melokuhle competed in the 8-9 years category and went into finals and obtained a second place. The pupils are moving forward to a National Competition in Cape Town during the July holidays.

Greytown Junior school would like to thank Brokersure for their continuous contribution to primary school rugby. Brokersure has been sponsoring the school’s first rugby side since 1998.

This has enabled the school to develop young players and with the gained development and opportunities has guided them into rugby careers.

The first rugby side is having an excellent season with no losses and six wins. To mark this 20-year partnership, the school presented Brokersure with a framed jersey as a token of their appreciation.
