THE Greytown Junior School first team cricket boys travelled to Wartburg on January 29 to play a match. Greytown won the toss and elected to bowl. Wartburg made 46 runs after 15 overs, with De Wet Botha taking two wickets, Cassius Yu also took two wickets and Abdullah Nakooda took one wicket.Greytown went in to bat and managed to reach the total put up by Wartburg in 9.3 overs. The man of the match was Mhloli Mkhize, who scored a total of 18 runs, making him the highest scorer on the day.A combined U10 and U11 team also played against Wartburg on January 29. Greytown lost the toss and Wartburg chose to field. Wartburg made 37 runs for six overs and Greytown Junior scored 34 runs for 12 overs. The man of the match was Rahul Schoeman. Although Greytown lost the match, the boys gained important experience that is essential so early in the cricket season.On February 1, a combined U10 and U11 cricket team played against Treverton Preparatory School on the T.J. Schraader field.Greytown Junior lost the toss and Treverton chose to field. The combined team played a fair game and showed tremendous improvement by making 53 runs in 15 overs.Treverton won the match by one run and six balls remaining.Also on February 1, our U13 cricket team played a match against Treverton at Treverton Preparatory School.Greytown Junior won the toss and elected to bowl first. Treverton made 108 runs after 20 overs, with Greytown Juniors managing to take six wickets. Greytown Juniors then came in to bat and only managed to make 38 runs with a loss of nine wickets after 20 overs.
