KARATE champion Sensei Sbonelo Mkhize of Greytown represented South Africa at the world tournament in Japan in April and is the first karate pundit from Africa to do so.
He did outstandingly well competing in kata and came in the top eight, which impressed world champion Shihan Ryu of Japan and others at the tournament.
Sensei Sbonelo is CEO of the Kyokushin Karate Academy in Greytown, which is nationally and internationally registered and recognised for its outstanding development with the Umvoti youth.
He told the Greytown Gazette he was very appreciative of the support from the academy’s students for his trip to Japan.
The academy this week is hosting the district karate camp at the Beehive until Saturday 7 July and visitors are welcome.
